Another Obama Broken Promise

Another Failed Obama Campaign Promise.

Well today is June 22, 2011, a day after a campaign promise from Obama was supposed to come to fruition. But, like many others before this one it did not happen. Time simply ran out, or was it other reasons?

The date of the summer solstice was specifically chosen by Obama to complete his idea by. His Idea was to put solar panels on the roof of the Whitehouse. Of course we all know he said it to woo the green voters. But United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu is trying to deliver on that promise. He made remarks at the GreenGov Symposium on Oct. 5, 2010. "I'm pleased to announce that by the end of this spring, there will be solar panels that convert sunlight to energy and a solar hot water heater on the roof of the White House. Now Obama was not the first to think of this idea. In fact President Carter not only put the idea on the table he closed the deal and solar panels were installed in the Whitehouse. They were removed by President Reagan fro they did not work well. Of course they did not work well. Quite simply the technology was in its infancy. Today they are so much better that there is a possibility these panels, if ever installed, will work. Many wonder if they will get installed at all. I would bet they will. Why? Can you say campaign? He wants to once more get the green vote, a vote he has been losing since taking office. “Today Chu says that the rooftop Challenge was only announced in April, 2001. You know, the politicians should really check their facts before speaking. Especially since he was the one who made the original announcement. It was not introduced in April 2001; it was introduced Oct 5, 2010. I can see how such an innocent mistake can happen. I mean October and April sound so much alike. He went on with his excuses to further say” There is no date established for when the 'competitive procurement process' is to be completed”. Are you kidding me? It has been 8 ½ months since they announcement, how long does it take to put a project out to bid? One could have a baby in that time period. I mean there are not many solar power companies in the DC area. So what’s the problem? Perhaps it’s because they are not getting the funding? Well no, Congress approved the funding under the Capital Improvements Budget. So that’s not it. The Department of Energy is making federal investments in solar including millions of dollars in funding to companies that are working to develop more cost-effective solar manufacturing processes and technologies. Well, that means the administration strongly back as well as believes in Solar Technology. Despite the setback, McKibben said 350.org and its supporters would continue to fight for solar panels on the White House roof."Clearly it's disheartening, because when they want to, this administration gets things done ... much harder things than this. It doesn't require SEAL Team Six to put up the solar panels," he said. "I guess the lesson is you got to keep pressing them, because only when you press them as hard as you finally can do you get anywhere." If you read into McKibbens statement it appears they are meeting with resistance to putting in panels. Why else would he need to “FIGHT for solar panels on the Whitehouse” Interesting.

So what is left after we wade through these excuses? It can only be one thing, it is political. But why, what is to gain, why put up resistance to something your administration wanted and is paid for? Why announce the plan to put these panels up if you did not plan to follow through? Was this justa political gesture to appease interest groups?Lots of questions. One thing is for sure, this like everything else that the administration does; it is always someone else’s fault. Obama, earn some respect before you get voted out next year. Man up, take responsibility for just one of the many mistakes you have made. But it will snow in Dallas in the middle of the summer before that will ever happen.

How hard is it to put panels up on the white house? If this president can't get this little job done no wonder the bigger issues go wanting.

Maybe he should open up the job to illegal,Sorry, Undocumented workers. They will do the jobs that unemployed american's wont do!
