My Patient the Constitution

It was a beautiful sunny day at the station, unlike many others. It was a perfect temperature, not to warm, not to cool. The crew and I were cutting it up in the kitchen as we just finished our breakfast. This was our house, the best house, the busiest house. These brothers of mine that I have been fortunate to serve with are the best; no call has ever gotten the best of us. But little did we know, we were about to embark on the most crucial call of our lives.

The call came in and as always we jumped into our zones. We all have a place we go to internally as the alarm sounds. We gear up, get on the apparatus and respond. The address sounded familiar, but then again after all these years all the addresses sound familiar. As we arrive on scene, my heart starts to feel funny, this place looks familiar, and I think I know the victim inside. I collect our gear and head inside, hoping I am wrong. But it all became too real when we entered the room. There on the floor the victim.

We sprung into action. I immediately checked for pulse, it was slow and thread. I checked breathing, slow and labored. The victim looked old, tired and battle worn and she is. But she looks good for 225 years old, if only we all looked that good at that age. Suddenly she developed and arrhythmia. A new battle was about to begin, the battle for her survival, we upped he oxygen intake, but we needed to take it further. A few shots on the defibrillatorto shock the heart, and now we have to start CPR. We are determined; we are not going to lose her despite what we are facing. But as I was administering each compression on the chest, her life began to flash before my eyes.

She was born on a crisp cool autumn day, September 17, 1787. She had a tough birth, many worked on her. That is evident as 39 signed her birth certificate. It has not been an easy life, but she led a proud life. It was a meager beginning, a gleam in the eye for some. She faced many obstacles along the way and she has also adapted or amended herself along the way. In fact it is documented she has changed 17 times along the way.

Over the years she has been admired, loved but she has also been abused, ignored, challenged, attacked, and outright violated. But she has always withstood the test of time, came back, and stood strong with her head held high. She has taken many body blows over the years, but in the last few years she has been under a full assault. She has weakened quite a bit, the toll has been taken.

Back, we have a normal heart beat again, but it is still weak. She needs our help and we are stabilizing her as much as possible. Time to transport her. We are taking really good care of her; she is so fragile right now. I am proud to admit I love her, I know many others do as well. Why are there those who do not like her? How could anyone not like this lovely lady and all she has given to us? We have stabled her for now but she needs more attention. We all need to come together to ensure he continued good health and existence.

My American View

The constitution was written as the base of our country to follow. The people who wrote it were wise enough to know it would need to change, evolve, and adapt. When I took my oath as a fire fighter, part of that oath was to defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But it also should have said we should defend it against those who ignore, not follow or look to dissolve her. The oath that our representatives took to uphold the Constitution means nothing to them. They push laws and legislations upon the people despite the fact the people do not want them Obamacare is a prime example. The majority of Americans were against the mandate, yet it was pushed upon us with many provisions that violate the constitution. If Congress does follow the will of the people, the current President does not care and issues an executive order to get his way. Now an EO is within his powers, but only when Congress is in recess as it is written in the Constitution. But with blatant disregard for that which has withstood the test of time that he promised to uphold, he violated it. Not the first time the Constitution has been violated and surely will not be the last attempt on her.

So how can we bring her back to health, all Americans must get involved. It starts with getting involved on the local and national level. Locally find out who your reps are. Find out there stances on the issues, future legislation. Send them by e-mail your stance, let them know if you agree or not. Remind them that not doing the work and following the will of the people will meet with repercussions. Despite what some think, your vote does count. If you think it does not let me just say this, remember the 2000 election and how close the Florida vote was. Or how about the recent Minnesota Senate race and how close that race was. Or maybe the recent Republican primary in Iowa and how close that was. Perfect examples where voting counts. So far the primaries are showing light voterturnouts and that needs to change. Do not let them think they can continue to run amuck. It is time for Washington to once again follow that road map drawn up for them many years ago, the Constitution of the United States of America.

"The desire to serve, The courage to act, The ability to perform".

That is my American View, what is yours.

  • Calling Out Harry Reid

Everyday Congressmen and Senators get onto the floor of their respective chambers and give speeches on different topics. Then they'll gather in the rotunda to give news conferences blaming each other for the issue at hand doesn't get resolved. Of course now that it is campaign season, they give broader speeches, and at times their speech has nothing to do with the issue at hand for which they were supposed to be addressing. I want to make it clear that both sides are guilty of this, but am only - 44 hours ago

  • IRS Loophole Enriches Undocumented Workers

Raising my kids I always told them to be responsible, to take responsibility for their actions. If you did something wrong, be honest, step up and take the punishment that may come for your actions. That’s what I have done my entire life and expect no more or less of my kids. I have been far from an angel in my life, but I took responsibility for my actions, including having been in jail, I never blame anyone nor do I expect anything. There should not be any rewards for not being responsible. - 3 days ago

  • Walker Being Recalled

Well the Democrats and the unions are at it again in the state of Wisconsin. They haven't learned their lesson, they still want to be divisive, and of course they still want to waste money. I'm talking of the recall election of Gov. Scott Walker. The last attempts at a recall on the senators and congressmen of Wisconsin was a failure to the tune of $30 million spent by them. I have no idea how much they're spending this time, but the unions are bragging they are spending more that last election, - 7 days ago

  • Can Obama Get Reelected in 2012

We all know that the presidential primaries are in full swing with all the noise Republicans are making. The Democratic primaries are currently going on at a much lower fevered pitch. After all what could there be to talk about, Obama is running unopposed, or is he. Turnout in most of the Democratic primaries has been light. In fact, if states did not have key races with Senators or Congressmen on the ballot, it would seem like turnout would be nonexistent. Of course so far in every state with - 2 weeks ago

  • Americans It Is Time To Get Involved

Stop the Presses, President Obama makes the major announcement we have been waiting for, he supports gay marriage today even though he was against it in 2008 then for it in 2009 and against it again in 2010. This is what we have been waiting for, this was the big one. Champagne is now flowing; confetti is falling from the skies. - 2 weeks ago

  • Can Republicans Win the Presidency in 2012

Do Republicans really have a chance at winning the Presidency in November of 2012? President Obama surely has made it easy enough for almost anyone to defeat him. Pick an issue and you will find nothing that Obama can campaign on. In fact in his speech kicking off his reelection campaign, president Obama did not mention one thing that he accomplished during his first term. All he did was lodge attacks against the Republicans and why it would be so terrible to elect those bad boys. - 2 weeks ago

  • Are Ron Paul Supporters Stealing the Nomination

Does your vote really count? We have all heard the stories over the years, stuffed ballot boxes, ballots destroyed, ballots thrown out, ballots just not counted, and of course the most famous are those hanging chads. We all have the right to vote, its part of what our founding fathers fought for in establishing this new great nation. Every November we the people go to the voting polls whether it is a presidential election, midterm elections for Senators and Congressmen, governors, mayors, judge - 2 weeks ago

  • The Ho-Bots Are Coming the Ho-Bots Are Coming!!

Robots and machines came to prominence in the early 1900s during the industrial revolution here in America. From robotic arms spot welding on the automotive assembly line, to the arms packaging products in boxes for shipping, robots have improved our way of life tremendously. - 3 weeks ago

Very well done my friend. We need to do everything we can to save this life. Her enemies continue to grow in numbers, and many who are highly paid to protect her are now part of the problem. I agree, we need to let them know they are paid to do this job, and we expect them to do that or their replacement will.

If I had started out just reading facts about our Consitution you would've lost me right away. But you created a story and made me want to know more about your central character. Very well pieced AV. I approve :)

Ardie,

It is hard to write about politics and get people to listen or follow. There are to many varying opinions. I write generally to inform people of the actual facts because they hear so many different views and opinions.

Many people have heard of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, but have never read it. I have read it many times. they are great documents and everyone should read them. I am not even sure they teach about them in school anymore. I believe it is important that they do. You cannot go forward if you do not know where you came from.

AV - Excellent and so easy to understand even a 5th grader should grasp the meaning of the US Constitution. Congress and our current President are ignoring, willfully ignoring, the documents that founded this nation.

Here we are paying Congress $172 a year to ignore the law of the land when they feel like it. Obama makes $400K to do what? Ignore it just as Congress does.

If people actually bothered to read exactly what the documents say and then compare it to the actions on Capitol Hill, followed up by voting out those who aren't doing their job, very few of those career pick pockets would have a job anymore. That might be the best thing that can happen to this country right now.

Good work.

Our first step is to shut down the rhetoric and propaganda from those on the left that desire to destroy this wonderful country!

She has taken a beating of late that's for sure. She's one tough old lady though. I'm not about to give up on her and I commend you for sounding the rally to her side. She needs us all. As each day passes the left gets more and more blatant about circumventing the Constitution, by passing it at every turn and downright contradicting and over riding it and the freedoms it ensures. To do so goes against the supreme law of the land yet they seem to revel in it. Long may Lady Liberty stand!

Bravo. This is a life worth saving and up until this recent assault on it, it has been a life well lived. Up and awesome and shared with my followers.

There are far too many people in America who have not recognized that this election we have a choice to vote for an American or keep a socialist in office for another term. America cannot afford the latter especially if he gains legislative seats in the process although I do not see this president employing the legislative process even when he has the seats. His agenda is not America's agenda and the sooner that fact is recognized the better or chances to turn it all around. I live with the slogan, "Anybody but Obama". WB
