Resolute Desk in the Oval Office

What do I want from the President that will occupy the office January 2013? At this point I believe America needs to take stock, be honest with themselves and ask what do I want. What do I need?

I think most people will all agree and the same things. They want a job and one that pays enough to be comfortable. To be able to pay the bills, own a home, own a car, save for kids collage or weddings, take some vacations, save for retirement, have health insurance.

But the reality today is our economy is in the tank. It could go lower without some needed attention and soon. Every time it appears the economy takes a step forward, it takes two steps back. policies, regulations, and more that were put in place keep taking a toll. We are in debt so far, one could shovel through the entire earth and come out the other side in less time than it will take to pay the debt off on our current course. There is little to no confidence in domestic or foreign policies.

Now we have had a big political difference for many years but it is to a point now that no one can get anything done even if it means letting government shut down. Congress allows almost every bill or issue wait until the last second and then try to rush for a solution. The result, nothing but infighting, policies not up to the task, delaying action by short term extensions, and it is the American people that pay the price each time. One of Congresses favorite terms this years is "the bill is dead on arrival".

This has lead to a divisive public as well. There is no talking but instead there is nothing but blaming, name calling, RIP intelligent conversation. Conversations of all kinds have become so angry, even good friends are fighting. Today, if you are in an internet chat room and the subject is politics, keep the children away. Civility is defiantly taking a back seat to cursing, threats and discourse.

I for one am extremely tired and annoyed at it. What I want are answers, I want solutions to all of our current problems because if history tells us anything, it is that more problems are coming for us to address. Right now we do not need any more problems until we put the current ones to bed.

But now each side has shifted so far to the extreme of each party. Each side puts on the “it’s my way or the highway” attitudes. The left has shifted way to the “tax and spend” part of their rhetoric, the Right has shifted way to the “small government” that they are looking to eliminate many departments. Both sides are way to the extreme. Time to let them know what is needed to be done and to let the next Person who occupies the Oval office something to lead from.

There are many that have gone so extreme they are pushing for many departments to be eliminated. I do not believe we should be closing all government departments down, but they do need to be trimmed, some overhauled, and they need to concentrate on a narrow directive. There was a reason those departments were created in the first place. There was a need and those Departments were to address those needs. But they have ignored their mandate and become way to power hungry.

Let’s address education. The Whitehouse should not be making education policies like “race to the top” or “no child left behind” no matter how good the intention was. Education needs to be on the local and state levels. But the states cannot be left alone to police themselves. If states were left to themselves to make and teach curriculum, there could be 50 different education systems that turn out 50 different types of students. Then when they go to College across the nation, they may be lacking in certain subjects nor be ready overall. So here is how it can be addressed. The Department of Education will be overhauled and mandated to address one and one duty alone, to administer a national test for each subject to be given to students in even number grades. Basically, a student is tested every other year to monitor their progress. There are no penalties, action, fines, charters pulled or anything to be associated or tied to these tests. The results are for informational purposes only. The results of these tests are given to the local school districts so they can address their weaknesses in order to give a complete and even education on all levels. The Federal government will have no say on curriculum or the test itself. In order to ensure the best curriculum for all students across the nation, states will have one representative from each state that meet several times a year to examine and update current curriculum, books and other teaching aides. These representatives from the states will be the Department of Education They also will examine the results of the national tests to determine what needs to be done to turn out the best educated student as possible. The goal of this program is to increase the number of High School graduates, increase the number that will go to college, and to increase our math, reading and writing skills to above the highest levels that were achieved in the past. They are aslo mandated to find solutions for children that are not looking to go to college. They need to construct a national program to teach trades. These can be offered to those students looking for a college alternative. This program will help supply the work force and hopefully help avert the coming shortage of labor pool in the area of trades.

Lately it is in vogue to say eliminate the EPA. There is no doubt the EPA has grown too big for its britches and is overstepping its bounds. The EPA is creating and enforcing new rules at a fastest pace than the number of children born worldwide. But it is not only the EPA that creates regulation, it is also Congress and the President who also pass legislation that the EPA must enforce. The first step to fix the EPA should be to keep congress and the President out of the regulation business. There has to be some regulations to ensure a safe environment, otherwise we could be drinking green water and breathing brown air. But there also needs to be a way to reel in the EPA when they go too far like trying to keep dust down while farming crops. Perhaps a small EPA department that works in conjunction of a board comprised of several lawmakers and citizens from the business community to overhaul current regulations and work together on future regulations.

The National Labor Relation Board is another needed department but this one is also acting like it is the Messiah lately. There is no hiding the NLRB is pro union and has gone out of its way to assist unions instead of the workers as they were originally designed for. The first thing needed to fix the NLRB to make the NLRB strictly obligated to employees only. They need to be removed from the business of assisting forming unions; the unions have delegates that are responsible for that. THE NLRB should have one job and one job alone, employee rights. There should be no distinction between union and non union; ALL employees should be protected by the NLRB. THE NLRB should be the place for employees to rely on to go to anytime they believe their employer has violated the rights of an employee. For example, if an employer is refusing to allow an employee to take lunch, not getting paid for overtime, had an employer that did not abide by the Medical Leave act, to name a few. The NLRB should not be stepping in and telling businesses where they can expand to, who they should hire, and whether or not to be union or non union. Those decisions should be left to the companies themselves. The action of the NLRB in conjunction with the DOJ to try and stop Boeing from opening a plant it has already built unless they use union employees is a prime example of what the NLRB should not be doing.

Speaking of the Department of Justice, they too have become a department overstepping its bounds. Speak out about the President; the DOJ is all over you, so much for free speech. The DOJ is also stepping into the area of jobs and businesses. They recently stepped in and blocked a mutually agreed upon merger of 2 wireless phone companies. Now this was only done because the Whitehouse has a problem with ATT. The DOJ had nothing to say when Sprint and Nextel merged. In another move, the DOJ has raided Gibson Guitar, and this was not for the first time. But yet, the DOJ has not raided any other guitar manufacturer that does the same thing that Gibson is accused of. Is it because Gibson and the CEO are donators to the GOP while Gibson’s competitor donated to the DNC, a total of $725,000. IT seems to coincide with the time of the first raid in 2009; there were several raids since then. To add to the insanity of it, the DOJ in its pleading to the court specifically says that Gibson should move their operations to another country or use overseas labor. This during a time our country is trying to create jobs.

Interview with Gibson CEO: Here is part of the interview and you can hear the entire interview by using the link below.

Press release fromKMJ-AMin Fresno, California:

Tonight, in an interview on KMJ’s “The Chris Daniel Show,” Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz confirmed that the US government wanted Gibson guitars to use foreign labor over American labor:
CHRIS DANIEL: Mr. Juszkiewicz, did an agent of the US government suggest to you that your problems would go away if you used Madagascar labor instead of American labor?
HENRY JUSZKIEWICZ: They actually wrote that in a [inaudible].
CHRIS DANIEL: Excuse me?
HENRY JUSKIEWICZ: They actually wrote that in a pleading.
CHRIS DANIEL: That your problems would go away if you used Madagascar labor instead of our labor?
HENRY JUSKIEWICZ: Yes

The DOJ needs to get out of jobs, labor market and concentrate on what the department was formed to do, prosecute criminals. The department needs an overhaul including the removal of the current Attorney General. There have been numerous embarrassments for the DOJ over the last few years. The millions spent on the Rodger Clemens trial only to have the case tossed in less than 15 minutes after the trial started. Probably the most embarrassment will come from the Fast and Furious. This was a disaster of an idea that has cost many lives including several American Border Patrol Agents. Just a few in a line of black eyes the DOJ has taken in the last few years.

The department that needs the most attention and overhauling is the department of the Internal Revenue Service. There are several plans or ideas that are floating around. Flat tax, consumption tax, Tier tax, and more. While the candidates all say the same thing, it is just talk, an outline. Most give no details, no substance. Former Candidates Cain and Huntsman have both given more details but only Huntsman has given an extremely detailed accounting of what he would do to the IRS. The rest of the candidates including Obama also need to do the same. Currently the IRS codes are so complex and there are so many of them, when you stack them up they measure over five feet tall. There are so many loopholes and deductions 50% of those that file do not pay any taxes,Zip, Zero, Nada. If changes were made and the 50% paid in the same amount as the other 50%, we would have a 1.3 trillion dollar surplus. That should result in lower tax rate for those who currently pay.The time for simplification is long overdue.

There are those that want to severely cut funding to the Department of Defense, and now there are those calling for the elimination of the DOD. We all know that cannot happen. If you believe the United States does not need to defend itself from enemies foreign and domestic, you need to take off your rose glasses. What I want to hear is how they will reform the DOD. How will they get rid of the waste, put on plans for better oversight, to keep our troops modernized, make sure they have the best equipment, and that the men and woman of our armed forces are taken care off. What direction do they see the DOD going in the future? How will they work with our allies?

The next President MUST have the stones to take on Social Security and Medicare. These programs are in such a nose dive and the ground is fast approaching. Both systems need major repair. We do not need to privatize, turn them into vouchers or any of the ridiculus options that get spouted off. What needs to occur is a grand overhaul. Simply eliminate all waste, streamline the bureaucracy, simplify the system and make it that not every injury qualifies for disability. There was a report done back in the late 80s and at that time, it was believed there were 54% of people on disability that did not belong there. Today, it is so simple to get disability for people who never even paid into the system. Kids with ADD coming straight out of High School are getting disability checks instead of going to collage or entering the workplace. So be lazy, claim ADD and you are in the money. The same can be said for Medicare. So much money is wasted on bureaucracy than on medical treatments. Streamlining, revamping, weeding out those who do not belong on Medicare, Eliminate the clauses in Obamacare that will allow millions to go on Medicare instead of getting health insurance in their own name, cut out all waste and overbilling, all the fraud and we will see a better self sustaining Medicare. These actions need to be done to sustain current benefit levels and ensure the solvency of both agencies. They both have a useful and important place in our future.

The next President will inherent a foreign policy in total disarray and a world that too is in disarray. Thanks to the current administration, our strong allies have cooled to us; our enemies have no fear of us anymore. And why should they? Long gone are the Regan days of letting the world know we would defend ourselves and stood up to terrorists. Now we have a leader that bows down to them. The next President must solidify up our traditional allies, like the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and more. The Middle East is in major turmoil. What appears to be fighting for freedom and Democracy is actually a movement sparked and supported by Al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood. No nation in the Middle East is safe at this time. Even a country like Pakistan that is supposed to be our friend is actually knee deep in bed with Al-Qaida and the Brotherhood. I think it is safe to say no one was surprised Bin-Laden was found inside of Pakistan, nor would it surprise anyone if they knew it too. We invaded Afghanistan to rid the country of the Taliban. It is now over 10 years later, we are beginning to withdraw our troops and the Taliban is just as strong as it ever was. They will be controlling the country just as they were before we were there. Iraq is on thin ground. A democracy has been attempted after the removal of Saddem , but over time Al-Qaida has slowly regained strength, flex their muscle from time to time, and will take the country over right after US withdraws from the country. Egypt went through a revolution wanting freedom, wanting to get rid of a dictator. The Muslim brotherhood has risen to the top and will take over that country. Now Libya is doing the same and the rebels being recognized are the Muslim brotherhood. Others are Syria and Yemen but they have kept their revolts under control somewhat but are doing so with an iron hand. Other countries are being pushed into revolution, but it is not for freedom, that’s just the cover. It is for Al-Qaeda or Muslim brotherhood and terror organization to come to power and control the entire region. Think of the power they will have once they control OPEC. All those countries all on the same page, working together to train terrorists does not lead to a good outlook. And last but not least is Iran. Iran’s Nuke threat is quite real and not being taken serious enough today 9/28/2011 Iran has announced its 125 mile missiles. The Obama administration response today was “we do not take their threat seriously”. Have we not learned anything from 911? We need to take Iran and the like seriously. What is everyone going to say next time, Oh we did not know? Sorry, that dog is not going to hunt anymore. I have written several articles and mentioned several times on my show that the weapons in the Middle East will be used against the US or on others that will cause WWIII. “OH AV you are way too extreme” Really, when Bush invaded Iraq one of the reasons were WMDs. None were found. I always maintained they were hidden or moved to another country. About a month ago, 3 scud missiles were launched from Gaza into Israel. It turns out the three scuds had serial numbers on the missing WMD list from Iraq. I warned about countries like Egypt, Libya during these revolutions that their weapons would fall into the wrong hands. Last week barrels of Uranium and Yellow Cake were found in an abandoned warehouse in Libya. Found on scene were Gloves, measuring equipment, protective clothing. It was determined that the clothing and gloves were worn recently. Yesterday it was now discovered in another warehouse in Libya 20,000 Surface to Air missiles are now missing. Yellow Cake on one of those missiles even exploding in mid air will cause extensive damage. There is also a world economic crisis, several countries about to default. There are lousy trade agreements that need to be addressed, there are many trade agreements needed to be made. China devaluing our dollar, the ongoing China- Taiwan dispute. Our problems with Mexico and they are growing larger. Importing and exporting of illegal weapons and drugs. These are only a few of the foriegn policy issues at hand.

Our domestic programs need serious attention as well. High unemployment, National Deficit that is so out of control, We have not had a budget for two years, spending has grown at the largest pace in history, Huge tax increase on top of several over the last couple of years. Our housing and construction market is in ruins. Stores, restaurants and the like are not opening new stores, no expansion. Businesses are actually constricting and losing jobs.We all know that government does not create jobs, but there are moves Washington can make that will instill a growth attitude. Currently we are in the middle of the most anti-business environment in modern times if not in history. Above all, Congress and the President must get their house in order. They must balance the budget, eliminate waste, eliminate double jobs, and streamline government, streamlines programs. An HONEST look line by line of the budget is not enough. A total breakdown of each line item is in order. Just a line by line glance does not expose the fraud or the wasteful spending. Our borders need serious work. A true comprehensive and realistic plan must be put in place to end the border jumpers. Illegal immigration is a major burden for the US. The costs are staggering between welfare, healthcare, food stamps, and many other programs set up for illegal’s. There must be a plan put in place to deal with illegal’s that are hard working people in orderfor them to stay here. There also needs to be a plan to deport those breaking laws, being a drag on the economy, unproductive. There needs to be a realistic program in place to make America energy independent. There are thing that need to be enacted immediately, and there needs to be a long range plan. Wind and solar may be a part of the future, but it is not feasible now. Further research and development can change that. But in the mean time, we have gas, oil, natural gas, coal. We need to increase development of these. There are enough of these fuels untapped to make us less dependent on foreign sources. In the short term, we should proceed with that exploration while developing our future energy sources. Not only do we need to develop wind and solar, we should not be short sighted, we should research and develop other alternatives. While I will not address them, let’s not forget Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the United States Post Office.

No matter who is sitting behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval office come January, 2013 there will be a grand number of issues that will need to be addressed. It will be safe to say that the Presidents first 100 days will be scrutinized more than any of his predecessors have ever been. I did not want to write a huge dissertation, but looking at my outline I only mentioned about 30% of all the issues that need to be addressed. Congress and the house currently have over 7,000 bills, resolutions and non-resolutions in front of them right now without anything new coming along. What is needed is a leader, a mover, a shaker, a doer, a straight shooter. A person of honor, of loyalty, of courage. We need one that will say what we will do then do as we say we will. We need someone to call everyone on the carpet for not doing their job including ones within their own party. When a congressman or woman make disparaging remarks, they should be brought to the principal’s office and be advised them about civility. We need someone who will shake tree and demand results. Our country deserves no less at this time in our history.

  • Calling Out Harry Reid

Everyday Congressmen and Senators get onto the floor of their respective chambers and give speeches on different topics. Then they'll gather in the rotunda to give news conferences blaming each other for the issue at hand doesn't get resolved. Of course now that it is campaign season, they give broader speeches, and at times their speech has nothing to do with the issue at hand for which they were supposed to be addressing. • IRS Loophole Enriches Undocumented Workers

Raising my kids I always told them to be responsible, to take responsibility for their actions. If you did something wrong, be honest, step up and take the punishment that may come for your actions. That’s what I have done my entire life and expect no more or less of my kids. I have been far from an angel in my life, but I took responsibility for my actions, including having been in jail, I never blame anyone nor do I expect anything. There should not be any rewards for not being responsible. - 3 days ago

  • Walker Being Recalled

Well the Democrats and the unions are at it again in the state of Wisconsin. They haven't learned their lesson, they still want to be divisive, and of course they still want to waste money. I'm talking of the recall election of Gov. Scott Walker. The last attempts at a recall on the senators and congressmen of Wisconsin was a failure to the tune of $30 million spent by them. I have no idea how much they're spending this time, but the unions are bragging they are spending more that last election, - 7 days ago

  • Can Obama Get Reelected in 2012

We all know that the presidential primaries are in full swing with all the noise Republicans are making. The Democratic primaries are currently going on at a much lower fevered pitch. After all what could there be to talk about, Obama is running unopposed, or is he. Turnout in most of the Democratic primaries has been light. In fact, if states did not have key races with Senators or Congressmen on the ballot, it would seem like turnout would be nonexistent. Of course so far in every state with - 2 weeks ago

Stop the Presses, President Obama makes the major announcement we have been waiting for, he supports gay marriage today even though he was against it in 2008 then for it in 2009 and against it again in 2010. This is what we have been waiting for, this was the big one. Champagne is now flowing; confetti is falling from the skies. - 2 weeks ago

  • Can Republicans Win the Presidency in 2012

Do Republicans really have a chance at winning the Presidency in November of 2012? President Obama surely has made it easy enough for almost anyone to defeat him. Pick an issue and you will find nothing that Obama can campaign on. In fact in his speech kicking off his reelection campaign, president Obama did not mention one thing that he accomplished during his first term. All he did was lodge attacks against the Republicans and why it would be so terrible to elect those bad boys. - 2 weeks ago

Good work, you went into a lot of detail with the various departments! I believe all bills should be voted on but some from the White House should be DOA as for the first two years of Obama's reign the democrats had complete control and passed anything and everything. The right had to become extreme or else we would be even further in debt and in trouble as the left has been and still is so extreme.

I want the EPA reformed

IRS reformed! Taxes cut in half! all the chzars fired! give education back to the states and elimanate the federal education committee! Cut regulations out and start over with common sense! Turn the pumps back on in the California delta so farmers can go back to work! Take the federal wildlife department apart and repair it! I want common sense and someone with backbone! Right now that is Herman Cain!

You claim to be open minded but you sound pretty Republican in policy. I suggest you find a Republican candidate to vote for, lol. Cain fits the bill for you!

Story,

Funny, I am not qouting policy, just pointing out a few of the issues the next occupant will be addressing. So I gave a description of the type of President we need. Obviously, Obama does not fit the bill, Neither does Cain. My personal choice and the one most qualified is Huntsman, but it looks like his campaign will not get there.

I am most surprised, AV, that you would select a moderate GOP candidate like Huntsman, surely in the world of right wing hysteria, you obviously know that he does not stand a chance. As a progressive, he would be the GOP candidate I would object to the least. I would certainly like to know why you think that Huntsman is the best man for the job? Intriging article and, generally, I do not take issue with its contents.

Cred,

As I hace said many times I am an independent, I do not lean to the far left or right candidates. I gave a list of qualities at the end of this article and I mean them. I took 2 months to read up on every candidate on the right. By far Huntsman is the most qualified.

Love your ideas for the Department of Education. What do you think of tasking them to review the costs of public universities as well?

Your list of tax options did not include The Fair Tax, which has been written about in specific detail, though it is pretty simple. Are you familiar with it?

Your work on this hub is impressive. Up and interesting.
